Throughout the last 10-15 years, the approach to blepharoplasty has changed as technology has improved. As we have struggled to find better ways to achieve facial rejuvenation, we have found that many of the problems can be addressed with advanced techniques combined with surgery on the eyes. Many surgeons now address these issues with surgery on the eyes, including muscle tightening, lifting cheek fat pads, removing frown lines, and lifting the corners of the eyes.
How Is Blepharoplasty Performed
Many of us have stopped removing fat from the lower eyelids; instead, repositioning the fat under the creases of the lower eyelids to rejuvenate the appearance here. In fact, there are times when we actually strategically place fat grafts in some areas around the eyes to restore to a more youthful appearance. Even though some surgery can be done through the inside of the eyelid (subconjunctival approach), I have returned to doing an incision just beneath the eyelashes. In my hands, I can do a better job with redraping the skin and muscle and can remove some excess skin this way.
Can Blepharoplasty Be Combined With Other Procedures?
Many patients have eyelid surgery in addition to forehead lifts. This is because the problem with heavy appearance of the upper lids is due to the gradual descent of the brows instead. It is an ever-evolving art and we are continuing keeping abreast of the latest. As shown in the pictures below, the changes done in my procedures are not drastic but look more refreshed and natural with barely noticeable incisions.
